A path surrounded by nature

The Valle Cannevié-Porticino, so-called from the name of the former fishing huts present within it, is located near the town of Volano on the left bank of the Po di Volano, from which they are separated by the Via per Volano. It represents the only body of water excluded from the draining operations that led to the reclamation of the neighboring Valle Giralda (1958) and Valle Falce (1969), that is, the valley complex that had been formed by the submergence of the northern wing of the medieval delta of the Po di Volano.

The basin is furrowed by sub lagoon channels corresponding to the "lavorieri" of the old fishing system in the valley. Environmental restoration works were carried out in 1985 and 1994 with the re-excavation of sub lagoon channels and improvement of water intakes to the Taglio della Falce. In 1998, the nature trail with bird observation huts was arranged. A reconstruction of a lavoriero is present. Several hectares of agricultural areas north of the Volano church ponds were restored to wet meadow in 2000.
