Portuguese Franciscan Anthony spent the last period of his life in Padua and within a year of his death was proclaimed a saint.
The Basilica houses his remains and is visited by millions of faithful every year.
Other notable sights include the Cathedral, the Scrovegni Chapel frescoed by Giotto and the Piazza dei Signori, the heart of the historic center.
